  1. Where does the rescue get it's funding? H.O.P.E. is totally dependent upon public & business donations; as well as funds from the educational services we provide.
  2. Is the rescue a non-profit corporation and a 501c(3)? YES, we are an Ohio Non-profit corporation and a 501(c)3 charitable organization.
  3. Is your donation tax deductible? Yes, please speak with tax consultant.
  4. Level of horse experience of organization's board of directors, etc. Our Executive board has a wide variety of experience with horses and other animals, our President has over 25 years of horse experience alone. Our Advisory board also has a wide variety of equine specialty experience to draw from. Our combined board has a wealth of knowledge to completely care for equines and help to educate the public.
  5. Are the horses adopted, placed, leased? Horses are adopted and leased.
  6. If yes, does the organization retain ownership? Yes, H.O.P.E. always retains an interest in the horse.
  7. Is the horse's registration papers turned over to the adoptor? No, this is not a normal occurance.
  8. What methods are used to check on horses? We physically follow up on the horse; as well as via email, phone and mail.
  9. For how long and how often are checks required? We physically follow up regularly for 2 years and as necessary thereafter (no fewer than once per year).
  10. Adoption requirements? You can write to us for these, if your interested.
  11. If the adoptor is going to board the horse, does the rescue require a boarding contract with the boarding facility? We have something similar.
  12. What happens if the adoptor does not pay the board? We pick up the horse.
  13. Are adoptors allowed to lease the horse out to other people? No
  14. Does the organization insure that the adoptor follows-through with the horses health care? Yes, if there is reason to believe the adoptor is not doing so.
  15. Does the organization permit breeding of adopted/donated horses? No
  16. Is visitation of a donated horse permitted? Yes
  17. What happens if the organization should become defunct? IRS requires that asset of allocations be stated. Our horses would go to another reputable horse rescue.
  18. How long has organization been established? We were established in 2003.
  19. Ask to review application and contract. We give this at the time of serious interest.
  20. Inspect facilities, review management practices. We inspect all facilities where our adopted or leased horses are kept.
